A man from China has been arrested after UK immigration enforcement officers raided a restaurant in Oriental Garden, in Strand Street, Whitehaven.
According to a spokeswoman for the Home Office, the raid was carried out based on intelligence and allowed the immigration officers to carry out necessary checks to ensure the staff had the right to live and work in Britain.
Following the raid, the enforcement officers confirmed they had arrested a Chinese male who was discovered to have failed to obtain the correct documents and permissions before entering the country.
Commenting on the raid, the spokeswoman added that the worker was in breach of the UK visa he had applied for and therefore should not be living or working in Britain.
“Immigration officers carried out checks to ensure that staff had the right to live and work in the UK.” She added: “A Chinese male was found working in breach of his visa. He was detained pending removal from the UK."
The raid is one of many being carried out each day by UK immigration enforcement officers as they attempt to reduce the number of people in Britain on incorrect visas.
